Message a family in ClassChat

If you don't see this

• It needs the ClassChat permission. A director grants it under Manage School → Staff → Permissions.

A ClassChat conversation belongs to a child. Every teacher assigned to the child's current classroom can read and reply, and the child's parents with chat access receive it.

Before you start

• Finish Open ClassChat first.

Steps

1. Open ClassChat and stay on the ClassChat tab.
2. Tap the classroom to expand it (My Classrooms or Other Classrooms).
3. Tap the child. Children with no conversation yet show Tap to message.

4. Type in Type a message... and tap send.

Tips

• The line under the title reminds you who can read the chat.
• If you open a new conversation and leave without sending, it is removed.
• New messages arrive every few seconds while the chat is open.

Troubleshooting

• "No Classroom". The child isn't in a classroom. Assign them to one, or have an assistant director message the family from Families.
• The classroom is greyed out under "Chat Disabled". Chat is off for that classroom.
• "Failed to send. Tap to retry." Tap the message to send it again.
