Personalize a message with variables

If you don't see this

• It needs the Create Schoolbox Messages permission. A director grants it under Manage School → Staff → Permissions.

Variables are placeholders that Schoolbox replaces for each recipient when it sends the message, so one message can greet every family by name.

Before you start

• Finish Send a Schoolbox message first.

Steps

1. In the composer, place the cursor in the Subject or the message.
2. Tap Insert variable (at the end of the Subject field, or in the message toolbar).
3. Tap a variable.

Directors (capped at 3, comma-formatted)	{ADMISSIONS_TEAM}	First names of up to 3 directors and assistant directors
Message sender's name	{SENDER_NAME}	Your full name
Recipient parent's first name	{PARENT_NAME}	The first name of the person reading it
Guest payment link for the child's balance	{GUEST_PAY_LINK}	A link the family can use to pay the child's balance without logging in; it stops working once nothing is owed

Tips

• Child variables and the payment link only work for families. Staff recipients see the placeholder text, so send staff a separate message.
• In your own Outbox copy you see the placeholders, not the filled-in names.
• School's tour booking URL ({TOUR_LINK}) currently fills in blank. Paste your tour link as text instead.
