Create a custom lesson

If you don't see this

• It needs the Create Custom Lessons permission. A director grants it under Manage School → Staff → Permissions.

Custom lessons (the app calls them projects) let your school write its own activities in the same Engage, Explore, Reflect format as the Lesson Library. A new lesson starts as a draft that only you are working on.

Steps

1. Open the Library: teachers tap the Library tab; directors and other staff open Toolkit and tap Library.
2. Tap the My Projects chip.

3. Tap the + button (or Create Project if you have no drafts yet).
4. Under What would you like to name your new project?, type a name and tap Continue.

5. Under What ages will this lesson be for?, pick Preschool, Elementary or Middle, then tick one or more age groups.
6. Tap Create Lesson. The lesson builder opens so you can fill it in.

Tips

• You can also start from the classroom view of a lesson plan: tap Plan My Day, then Create Custom Lesson. That opens a blank builder without the name and age questions. See Plan from the classroom view.
• The lesson is not saved until you tap Save as Draft in the builder. See Build a custom lesson.

Troubleshooting

• Create Lesson stays grey. Pick at least one age group.
• I can't find the Library on a computer. On the web the Library is under Toolkit for directors and other staff. Teachers reach it from the phone app's Library tab.
• Nothing happens after Create Lesson. The lesson could not be created. Check your connection and tap Create Lesson again.
